The pandemic exacerbated an already complicated situation for communities situated in areas
where the internal Colombian conflict is an everyday reality. Confinement enforced by armed
groups, lockdowns, and the historic exclusion from the health services are some of the
dynamics that increase communities’ vulnerability and undermine our resistance and our
struggle to survive and protect the amazon rainforest.
To help our communities face these challenges UMIYAC is subsidizing the work of local
traditional yagé healers and medicine women, making sure that each territory has the means to
provide for its own spiritual and physical health. Our objective for 2021 is to make the
strengthening programs accessible to each one of the twenty-two territories covered by our
organization.
